Bronx, NY (September 8, 2021) – Around 8 p.m. on Tuesday night, September 7, a woman was killed in a pedestrian crash involving a bus in the Bronx.

According to the New York Police Department, the accident happened at the intersection of Johnson Avenue and Kappock Street near the area of the Spuyten Duyvil Creek. An MTA bus was traveling in the area of the intersection when it made a left turn, striking a pedestrian who was crossing the street. The 68-year-old pedestrian was using a crosswalk at the time of the accident and was forcefully pinned under the bus.

Paramedics and numerous other local responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. The pedestrian, identified later as Ruth Mullen, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. She allegedly lived in a building right across the street from where she was struck.

The bus driver was not injured but remained at the scene to cooperate with the police.

Due to the severity of the crash, a large portion of the intersection was blocked for some time

No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
