Staten Island, NY (September 10, 2021) – At 5 p.m. on Monday, a pedestrian accident occurred at an intersection on Staten Island.

According to police, the accident happened at the intersection of Burgher Avenue and Cary Avenue. A 17-year-old victim was walking with friends in the area when he was struck by a black or gray vehicle traveling through the area. The vehicle continued onward without stopping to check on the victim. One of the friends of the victim said that the driver ran a red light while fleeing the scene.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene. The unconscious 17-year-old was badly injured in the accident and taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time. Police quickly worked to clear the scene.

The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time.
